This pair of cabinet bronzes presents two armored horsemen in contrasting but complementary scenes: one in a moment of triumph on a rearing horse, the other in a stately procession. The modeling emphasizes the details that matter most in bronze sculpture, including helmets, armor joints, horse harnesses, and the textured relief of the caparisons.
The figures are mounted on bases of rare Nero Portoro marble from Liguria, whose deep black surface and white veining create a luxurious contrast with the bronze.
